Brother specialise in designing hard-working printers that don’t break the bank, and the Brother MFC-J5730DW is no exception. In fact, coming in at just £262.80, it might be one of the best value Brother all-in-ones ever.
Just look at how many features they can pile on this machine for that price. It’s an inkjet all-in-one that can print, copy and scan in sizes up to A3. It can print from a cable-connected PC, a mobile device, a USB stick, the cloud and over wireless networks, all from multiple devices. It can print from social media sites, and it can upload documents to the cloud, too. And navigating the options is a breeze, thanks to the 9.3cm colour LCD touchscreen.
The MFC-J5730DW can print up to 35 pages per minute (ppm) in black and white and 27ppm in colour in fast mode, and it can print up to 22 images per minute (ipm) in black and white and 20ipm in colour. It has automatic two-sided printing, and it also has a two-sided automatic document feeder (ADF) that can scan and copy doubled-sided prints with ease.
It has outstanding paper capacity, too. It can hold up to 600 pages – 500 in the regular tray and 100 in the multi-purpose tray. The ADF holds up to 50 pages.
As for downsides, there are no fax capabilities. For most businesses, this is hardly a deal-breaker, but it is worth noting. It’s also much larger and heftier than a standard home office printer, measuring 63.9cm wide, 46.9cm deep and 51.1cm high and weighing just over 24kg. Again, this is only a problem if space is at an absolute premium, but in most cases, there should be a spare cabinet top it can sit comfortably on.
One thing that may offset the downsides is the low running cost. The MFC-J5730DW has Blue Angel and Energy Star environmental accreditations, so its high efficiency keeps energy bills down. It is also compatible with Brother’s high-yield cartridges, which can drive the cost per page way down.
In the end, you give up a little flat space and the ability to fax, in exchange for high printing, copying and scanning speeds at a great price.
